This was the first time I have seen Sigur Rós live in 7 years, the last being in Manchester 2005. It was extraordinary the differences and yet how much of the continuity and precision of even individual notes have not changed.
Jónsi had a powerful voice tonight, something that really shows in parts of this recording. The band will tighten up slightly no doubt towards the end of the tour but all things considered they have achieved something which has to be experienced as it can't be put into words! The video / stage set which was completely different for each song, again has to be seen, no, experienced to be believed
The recording came out well, no clipping! (always a worry) but did take some work to bring a good balance. The building itself struggled with some of the higher frequencies. Fortunately my mics tend to ignore such things and also seem to cut through a lot of the colour.
All in all Im very happy with the end result. Hope you enjoy the recording and it brings back good memories.
Edit: after having listened to the show twice I'm giving it a *top ten concert* status. I hope Im not just being bias but after some careful listening I can't fault the quality of the balance of the highs, mids and lows :)

Blank Mass:
Because he was the support act there some relatively quiet talking in the background but a very nice recording. Unfortunately I had some equipment issues so there is a soft fade out / fade in half way through the set. I don't know the songs well enough to name but link to the relevant sites to find out more!

ReplyDeleteSuperb, I was at the Monday show, which had the same songs, but in a different order. Fantastic. Love the new songs too. Brennisteinn especially.
ReplyDeleteThanks
Thanks Simon, its a real delight and a pleasure for me to use my skills and to share something as wonderful as this

Thanks so much for this. Saw them in Glasgow and was just blown away. I didnt think it would be possible after seeing them for the first time back in '07. This is just outstanding quality given it was recorded from the crowd. Excellent job. I am into the idea of going again to catch them at Jodrell Bank, but am concerned that Jonsi's voice may not be as tip top after all that touring between now and then! Thanks again
ReplyDeleteSuperb recording Jon, brilliant work. It's a gig that will live long in my memory, and will now live forever in my ears!
ReplyDeleteAmazing recording and work here Jon. Always that bit extra special when I can say I was there myself : ) & now I'll always have this (alongside my vids/pics from the night!) to remind me of the magnificence witnessed from the greatest live act in human history.
ReplyDeleteLowry in 2005 was my 1st Sigur gig so thanks for that one too!
Hi Jon
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for this mate and all the other work you do. I'm the guy you spoke to about taping, before the show, two seats to your right! Excellent recording mate and good to meet you.
Cheers
Chris
You are...too good
ReplyDeleteI'm so thankful you've made this recording, and done such an amazing job of it!
ReplyDeleteSunday was my first ever Sigur ros live experience after being a fan for 10 years, so to get to re-live it time and time again through this... thank you so much! ^____^
This is just amazing. Thanks so much for this brilliant recording.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, I was at both and Wolves too but this would have been the best as the crowd were quieter too, great job.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for posting this gig. I had tix but had to miss the gig as I was in hospital :( Thanks again, you're a star!
ReplyDelete... but now I've got tickets to see them play at Jodrell Bank in August, so all is not lost :)
DeleteThis recording is stunningly good. I was there in row D of the circle and I'm not sure if the sound in my ears on the night was as good as this!
ReplyDeleteIf our paths ever cross, I owe you a couple of beers. Amazing work, keep it up :-)
^ Thanks all for your kind comments
ReplyDelete@ chris - nice to meet ya fella - I only wish I liked Tori Amoss!
@Dr Mark - we were probably within spitting distance of each other! Ive noticed with the [cardroid] mics I use they seem to ignore the extra 'colour-Boom-loudness' somehow and give quite a neutral recording...which is of course a perfect place to start a Re-master from :D - Fingers crossed all goes well with tonights recording!!
Many thanks for this. It was amazing to see them live for the first time - although I did catch Jonsi in 2010 - and now I will be able to re-live the experience over and over. I took my 14 year old daughter with me and feel that I have educated her to the true meaning of the word awesome. Thanks again for posting.
ReplyDeleteThis recording is so good I can hardly wait for the Brixton shows to be available. I went on the Thursday and Friday and without a doubt they are the best two concerts I've ever witnessed, Friday edging it for me courtesy of Hrafntinna.
ReplyDeleteNow to decide on Jodrell Bank and The Eden Project.
Takk.
Superb recording, thankyou!
ReplyDeleteI was at Wolverhampton. I saw Jonsi playing his solo tour a few years ago, this was my first time seeing the whole band. The encore of Svefn-g-englar
& Popplagið blew me away....
Now I have an opportunity to relive it, thanks to your dedication & dilligence. Blessings to you!
thanks, was there too!
ReplyDeletePlease take down your review on my (Abandon Strings) archive.org page. You were not the only taper there that night. Mine was recorded with a Zoom H1 sound recorder as a .WAV file, which I later broke up into mp3 tracks on my own DAW program. It has not been taken from your site as you claim and this was the first I knew of another recording. Would appreciate you contacting me first if this is suspected.

Hi Abandon strings
ReplyDeleteI tried to find a way to contact you but couldn't for the life of me find a way to do so from within Archive.org. No offence to you but your track 1 starts at exactly the same time as mine with the same fade in, so you'll forgive me for believing it was my recording! Feel free to email me direct...victoryroselossless [at] gmail.com
best wishes Jon
