Dear Fans of Sigur Rós I run these blogs out of a love and deep respect for the music of Sigur Rós and also other music that moves my heart as the majority of us here have similar tastes. I try to find a way to get some of the music to you, sometimes through live shows, radio, often through asking the artist directly.
~ Unfortunately due to a huge & ever increasing demand on downloads it looks like there is every likelihood there will be an increasing number of times where the bandwidth will run out in-between monthly payments.
I pay for about 100gb a month + keeping the files safe from deletion due to inactivity. I don't currently receive an income so it can be a stretch at times!
~Therefore, I have to humbly ask that if anyone has a spare $9 from time to time it would be very much appreciated and a big help. I keep all Victoryrose blogs free from advertisement & always upload the biggest file possible for users to download for free. Nothing I upload is illegal and where appropriate is posted with permission. In other words I'm trying to offer a clean, legal, interesting and largely fan based service...which is becoming a little bigger than my wallet is able to cope with!
~ If you have no wish to help out or can't (who has spare money these days!) please, by all means continue to enjoy the content but if the bandwidth does run out please be patient until it can be topped up again.
Thanks
All moneys recieved would go directly from Paypal to Mediafire (proof available if needed)

The first concert here of the 2003's is a great introduction to quite a different feel and line up of new songs and some new versions. Vaka has a new beginning & ending and some changes to Svefn-G-Englar (although it wasn't sung here) A very slow and wonderfully emotive early version of Gong makes its first appearance along with Starálfur, E-Bow Guítardjamm and Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása.
Not a great quality but the energy and inclusion of new songs makes this a worthwhile post

15.01.2003 Kárahnjúkar Protest Concert Reykjavik - SBD
Kárahnjúkar Protest Concert Reykjavik - SBD
A great way to start the 2003's with something very special. This 3 track concert is incredibly rare and unique. The first track 'Samskeyti' is a very different minimal version. The second track 'Big' made an appearance on the 'Peel Session and the third track is a wonderful extended version of Avalon... with vocals!
One of the things that makes these tracks so good is hearing Jónsi just 'go for it' using the full emotive power of his voice. A truly unique and enjoyable Sigur Rós concert.
From website: Sigur ros will perform a short set next wednesday (january 15th) at a conference whose aim is to protest against the impending construction of the kárahnjúkar power plant in east iceland. this kárahnjúkar hydropower project will result in irreputable environmental damage to approximately 290000 hectares of land in this area. other icelandic artists who have protested against the project include björk, who recently submitted a protest article in the icelandic newspaper morgunblaðið. the conference takes place at borgarleikhúsið in reykjavík and begins at 20:30

What an amazing finish to the 2002 concerts, (I believe the very last one of 2002) a newly discovered *Top Ten Concert* of outstanding quality, simply faultless. The concert also has the feel of a 'just like you're there' quality which makes this an audiotorial experience of exceptional magnificence. There are two things which slightly let it down, if you can even put it in those terms! The drums are slightly too prominent in the mix and Popplagið is cut short. Enjoy :)

Its wonderful to [almost] leave the 2002's with another 'Top Ten' essential Sigur Rós concert. Words fail but it is simply superb! The one small aspect of the audio that will make it a real maker or a slight breaker for you is the prominence of the drums in the mix. This has both good and bad points, sometimes it works fantastically in its favour where as sometimes its a little bit too intrusive. However in no way does this stop this particular concert from being within the Top Ten of Sigur Rós at their very best, live in a small theatre.

Quite a nice ethereal floaty in the background type of concert with a lovely relaxed pace. I had to quite a lot work on this one to put the voice and instruments in the correct place in the sound field. Amazingly clear, loud and wonderfully full and balanced sound. The only thing that lets it down is slightly is the voice not being in the centre. I did move the various instruments and voice around a bit in the sound field but left it in the end as it interfered somewhat with the over all quality. No big deal really, it just stops it being perfect! Just listening as I post this to the drums on 'Milano' and it strikes me how perfectly balanced they sound with the cymbals crisply rising above yet mixing wonderfully with the drums themselves. Quite blissful

I really like this concert a lot. It has the most lovely soft yet clear sound. The 14 minute long Von is divine! I don't know if its good enough to become a 'Top Ten Concert' without a full listen, but its quite possible. This is the 3rd time now this concert has appeared here but with very good reason. This final version, presented here I have mastered from a 1st generation copy of the original, kindly passed to me by Einzak.
I must stress this version sounds nothing like the other versions we have heard to date. This definitive Master is nothing short of superb in every way. Whilst the original had a wonderful, calm, mellow sound, this final Master sounds Epic!
A lot of work went into this master and I now feel completely satisfied with this particular concert and feel excited for fans and new comers to Sigur rós to experience the band at their very best. You can also download this via torrent over on Dimeadozen .

As Ive said before, for some reason the most incredible concert recordings seem to come from this venue. This one is no exception. You can hear its in a big hall but the way the sound fills the hall is so beautifully done as to get a feeling of depth, weight and the sheer power from this music. A wonderfully different sound from the last 3 posts. We see Milano and Daudalagið making a first appearance. Milano in particular a nice surprise as it isn't listed on the notes. I really love the 'background' singing on Milano that Jónsi does. I can't remember if its unique, the way he does it here but the way he ends Milano is exquisite. Also there is a very interesting extended version of Daudalagið here with the intro lasting 4.20!

Same equipment/taper as the last 2 concerts so the quality is just heaven sent! Perhaps out of these three this is the best, its hard to say but it looks like you will have to just download them all :)
A couple of points of interest, Von sounds (again) phenomenally good with the drums rolling beautifully through the sound stage from right to left with Jónsi letting rip in the background in such a way you would probably sell your grandmother/give your right arm to be in his shoes at that time!!
Avalon is played in full and interestingly morphes into Olsen Olsen a rare encore. Also maybe rarer is Jónsi speaking, saying thank you and saying " we are going to play one more song for you as you such an amazing audience and kind off little bit similar to Icelandic people, a little bit crazy in the head but thats nice "
Must add a huge thanks to who ever taped these shoes x

There is nothing I can fault about this concert, everything is just wonderful. It is quite an exceptional stand out concert because of the drums and the stereo field. The drums are just...epic. Perhaps the best Ive heard on any of these recordings! and if you listen closely during parts of Von you actually hear different drums on different ears, which in quite extraordinary on a live non-commercial recording. I didn't do much work on this one, if anything I had to calm it all down! Its difficult to say if this 'the' best live recording of Sigur Rós but I'd say its easily within the top 5. Couple of interesting historical points, the intro is the start of Starálfur blending into Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása and I think this may be the first time that Jónsi sings the whole of the end of Vaka out loud (it began as quite a subdued end) It sounds like he steps back from the mic, almost as if he's testing it out? Later as it developed Jónsi really belts out Vaka at the end. Seeing him do this :)
You can see what I mean here: @5.20 onwards (never fails to give me goosebumps)

What an amazing start to the 2002 concerts! A new addition to the *Top Ten Concerts* The quality of this soundboard recording is stunning. What sets it apart from others is the incredible balance of everything, the bass is rich and deep whilst the cymbals come across as deliciously crisp and above everything Jónsi's voice effortlessly soars cleanly and crisply. The performance of Salka is perfect here, perhaps the best Ive yet heard. Von also is sublime. The only thing that stops this being a perfect live recording is the sound of the drums bouncing of the walls for a few moments during some of the songs.

The re-mastering of this amazing concert has breathed new life into what is a modern classic. I have removed all clapping in the interludes so you have a pretty much seamless concert.
There is some excess noise on the first two tracks which unfortunately came with the original, I tried to EQ them out but in the end I have just left them so as not change the track as a whole. Sorry.
If you havn't got this one get it, if you have it already be sure to download this re-mastered version - its well worth it

This score is based on a lost chapter of the bible of norse mythology, the edda.
the edda was originally an unwritten oral history of heathen and early christian scandinavia, where the region's isolation led to a long changeover period to organised religion around 1000ad. the stories, myths and legends of heroic deeds and nordic strife were collected together by persons unknown sometime during the 12th and 13th centuries, before being recorded by danish scholars during the 17th century.
in the 19th century the authenticity of one of the chapters was questioned by a later generation of academics, and 'odin's raven magic' was excised from the text, adjudged as a 15th century fake. now some 150 years later new research has concluded that 'odin's raven magic' was indeed authentic and this autumn it is finally being reintroduced to the edda. it is the loss, and subsequent rediscovery, of this hidden history that sigur rós and hilmar örn hilmarsson are marking here.

Quite a tricky one to do due to the quality, so we have quite a rough, dirty sound which has a big emphasis on the high end giving this concert quite a sibilant sound. In some cases there can be limitations on improvements in quality depending on the original recording so, as in the case here, this is not the best in terms of quality but it does have quite a unique sound. I think its good though overall to have concerts here that emphasise different types of sound with some for example, displaying a large booming drum bass and others, such as this one having more emphasis on the higher end. For those who like a very clear crisp sound this concert will please

This particular concert has a very clear sound with more emphasis on the high than the low end frequencies. The main work with this particular concert was to bring Jónsi's voice back to the centre of the soundstage. A good sound over all but there is some small clipping during the loudest parts.

Lot of work went into this one. The sound was ok-ish but very 'muddy' Over all Im quite happy with the results. Although it still lacks some 'meat' and overall warmth/depth its a fabulous concert with some exceptionally measured slow paced playing, as in Álafoss

Faultless show in both quality & performance. A very nice balance of clear vocal & instruments and some elements of a 'big theatre sound' Very nice

Quite a well known and loved concert from 2001. Despite being an audience recording Jónsi's voice is very clear and in the fore front of the mix making it a very enjoyable concert

For some reason every Sigur Rós show from this venue has been spectacular, with this one being no exception. The whole concert is exception although sadly its let down by 'soft clipping' of the bass drum. With a bit of imagination you can pretend you are there at the venue and the bass drum is mic'd a little too loud...which in general works! with the exception of Lagid i Gaer in which the bass is very noticeably clipped. Don't be put off though, the sound itself is wonderful. In fact of all the various 'sounds' from these audience recordings this is my favourite type. Im wondering if some of those lovely DPA mics where used?

Quite simply one of, if not THE very best concert of Sigur Rós. Certainly my favourite from 2001. There's a danger of me writing pages on the good qualities of this one so I'll just put in two words:
Truly Magical!
NB: This is no different from the previously posted version. One of the main reasons of this new layout and Sigur Rós dedicated blog is to host the final versions of all the masters Ive done. During the course of mastering the first round I learnt many new things including a now finalized and agreed upon naming/tagging system for these concerts. This means though that I have to re-upload some of these concerts, but its good in that I can take a second critical listen to the first masters I did and if there are any that I feel can be improved upon can take the time to do just that so that by time this project is completed we should have a complete and exhaustive collection of live Sigur Rós material, properly mastered to get the very best out of each of them

This is a slightly revised 2nd master of this newly arisen concert. The sound itself on this 2nd version is more rounded and much smoother around the edges. It won't be ranked amongst some of the greatest recordings we have but its still a very listenable and powerful concert. Another small change I made on this version was to master it particularly to be played loud. Because we are so fortunate to have such a great collection of live material it gives me on occasion opportunities to do something a little different. In this case to master it going with its strengths and as such it sounds very powerful played loud! Thanks again to Alyssa for her kindness in getting in touch and passing this on.
