2002.10.24 Philhamonie, Koln FM Re-master

Lineage: Unkown FM

Quite a quiet sound with everything coming from a distance and at times a little strained. Not a very typical FM sound but its not too bad and having a unique type of sound will suit some people who prefer it.

02 Ny Batterí
03 Njósnavelin
04 Svefn-G-Englar

2001.10.01 St.Andrews Cathedral, Vancouver - Re master

Lineage: Unknown FM
Quality/Performance: 95/100

Quite simply one of, if not THE very best concert of Sigur Rós. Certainly my favourite from 2001. There's a danger of me writing pages on the good qualities of this one so I'll just put in two words:
Truly Magical!
NB: This is no different from the previously posted version. One of the main reasons of this new layout and Sigur Rós dedicated blog is to host the final versions of all the masters Ive done. During the course of mastering the first round I learnt many new things including a now finalized and agreed upon naming/tagging system for these concerts. This means though that I have to re-upload some of these concerts, but its good in that I can take a second critical listen to the first masters I did and if there are any that I feel can be improved upon can take the time to do just that so that by time this project is completed we should have a complete and exhaustive collection of live Sigur Rós material, properly mastered to get the very best out of each of them

Set List:

01 Vaka
02 Njósnavelin
03 Ny Batterí
04 E-Bow
05 Álafoss
06 Olsen Olsen
07 Fyrsta

Almost faultless recording with no hissy FM elements at all except a little at the beginning where there is some tuning going on :) Sven-G-Englar & Vaka are of note here as they are early versions which feature different beginnings and endings than later versions

Set List:

01 Sven-G-Englar
02 Vaka

Very nice FM recording. Actually sounds quite the opposite of an FM recording, quite flat & neutral. Perhaps a little too much low end but overall a very pleasing concert

Fantastic concert, short but including two quite rare tracks, Syndir Guðs and one of the Rímur songs. Excellant quality with only a little bit of 'FM radio crackle' noticeable during quieter moments.

03 Syndir Guðs

An absolutely stunning concert both in quantity and quality. Alafos is simply breathtaking. There is something about the line up of tracks which works really well. This easily goes into my top 10 list of favourite concerts. There just seems to be something so sublime about these 2000 concerts. Enjoy this one, its a special one.
edit: This is a different version to the second post of the same concert. It features all the tracks from the concert but is not as good quality as the latter version (although its still very good!)

Very nice FM recording. Not much evidence of excessive compression and FM transmission artefacts on this one although what lets this recording down a little bit is Jónsi's voice getting a bit lost in the mix at times. Doesn't detract too much though from a very enjoyable concert

Looking at my notes, the first time I worked with this concert I mostly left it alone as the quality was superb. This time however, I spent a  lot more time with the audio going through the mastering process to see what could be improved and I have to say the results are such that [for me] the Roskilde 2000 show now ranks amongst the top 5 of all time Sigur Rós concerts.
The stereo field is wonderful to experience with each instrument given its own special and clear space to be appreciated in. The way they work together is perfect with Jónsi's voice rising clear and strongly above the mix.The detail of each instrument within the mix is exceptionally clear with the result that the various instruments can each be individually enjoyed at different points of the concert. The performance is also delivered in a slow deliberate agonisingly powerful manner which again makes this one of the very best of the early Sigur Rós.
